For my technology project I created a lesson about learning how to add fractions with uncommon denominators. To view my lesson click here.
The features used in this lesson include the smart board technology, especially the pull out tabs, the random name generator, fraction pictures. I also used the mathplayground.com video to show the steps to adding the fractions. I learned How to add a link into the lesson, but I did have trouble figuring out how to just have a word or picture as a link instead of showing the url link. I also used excel to create a worksheet for the students to complete. This worksheet taught me how I can use excel to make nice worksheets and it wasn't even difficult. For example, I learned how to make the boxes text-friendly and I learned how to make the boxes center the text without using alt-enter, but by formatting the cell to center. I also formatted the cells to fit the numbers and symbols in the cells. There is also room for the students to show their work on the paper so that I will see there thought process, if they write it down.
While creating this project I did have an interesting problem happen, one of the pull tabs I used some how switched where the tab was and I was unable to pull it out to show the information on the tab. Thankfully I had a copy of that same tab so I deleted the backwards one and copied and pasted the other one making it so that the tab now works. Other than this problem I did not experience an other problems.
This project helped me to understand more on how to use the smart board to make math more interactive by having students coming to the board and pulling out the tabs that show the steps. Then the students will perform the step. I also learned more about the smart board and grew more confident in using the technology in my other classes and made my other lessons even better than this one.
For the Teacher NETS this lesson covers number 2: design and develop digital-age learning ecperiences and assessments. I have incorporated the use of video from the web and smart board tools to create an interactive experience for the students. Number 3 is also incorporated: Model digital-age work and learning; through this lesson I will show my knowledge of understanding technology and my confidence to use it as well. These are only a couple of the teacher NETS that this lesson fullfills.
The Student NETS for this lesson are number 5: ditigal citizenship- by incorporating the technology the students will have a postitive attitude towards the technology and the lesson. Then there is also number 6: technology operations and concepts -the students will show uderstanding about how to pull the tabs out and how to write write on the smart board.
