When it comes to knowing what can be done in the Microsoft Office software the lists can go on forever. Let's start with Word.
Word is one of those programs you cannot live without any more. There are numerous ways to use this program; here is my top uses for Word:
write papers- header/footer; line spacing; font/size; left/right/center margin; spell check; insert pictures;
create flash cards- orientation of page; font/size; insert pictures; format of picture
paste pictures and adjust them for my projects- format of picture; transparency
create charts and layouts- the drawing tools
make worksheets- font/size
Then there is Excel, this program is great when you need to use equations, or need things very organized. I use this program for:
keeping track of my weekly income- merging cells; equations ( ex. =sum(click on boxes))
creating fraction worksheets- border lines; text for formatting cells; making cells correct size; centering
figuring out my school schedules each semester- adding days through short cut; showing various times; merging cells;
creating charts- using the charts button
Power Point has not truly been a big part of college for me but I did use it in high school for presentations. Here are the features I know how to use:
create new slides
animate slides and things in slides
add backgrounds
add pictures
add notes
make everything on one slide (but very confusing and difficult)
move slides around
adjust how I want to print the slides
sound effects
For my future students I would make sure they understood how to use Word through a newsletter of newspaper assignment because then they will be using columns, centering, pictures, page breaks, head lines and much more. By completing this project the students will learn how to work the important parts of Word for sure. Then when it comes to Excel the students could develop their own business and use the sheets to show various parts of the business. For example, have one sheet for the budget/finances then another for scheduling meetings or the work schedule for the employees and another to show the employees and their information for the company. For Power Point the students could create a presentation about their cultural backgrounds. The students could incorporate a video or various types of media into the presentations.
