NETS- Teacher
In this lesson the teacher's NET standards that are included are number 2. design and develop digital-age learning experience and assessments. This activity makes the lesson more technology savvy by using a map game within the Smart Board toolkit that requires that the students become active in the lesson by finding where the region is on the map. For assessment the matching game, from the same place, is used to assess how well the students understood the lesson. By incorporating it on the Smart Board it helps the students interact within the learning experience and also to interact with technology. This lesson requires that the students be active in their learning and through the excitement of using technology the students will be more willing to participate.
The students NET standards that are incorporated into this lesson are number 2. Communication and Collaboration. The students will be interacting and working with their peers to learn about the various regions of the world. They will also become aware of global awareness by learning about where the regions are and will have the foundation to continue learning about those regions later in school. By creating a Smart Board lesson the students will gain knowledge on how to operate the Smart Board and have an understanding of how to interact in the lesson by participating in using the Board.
Through the use of the Smart Board the students learning will be improved by making the learning kinetic by having the students moving and physically finding the region. The students will be more willing to engage because they are becoming involved in their learning, not just listening and looking at their own maps or just looking at the classroom map that might be difficult to see near the back on the classroom.
For this lesson I used the blue "hot spot" activity to locate the various regions on the world map. Then I use the brown "matching cards" to help enforce what the students have just learned.
Here is my lesson on world regions
